Learn About Acting. From Emmy Winner Cady McClain in April at Michael Howards Studios in New York City

 MICHAEL HOWARD STUDIOS, the professional acting studio for theater, film and television, is presenting two special and unique classes for actors starting in April 2023 by Cady McClain who has joined as an instructor at this well-known school. 

Cady McClain was the youngest student accepted into Michael Howard’s Scene Study Class at the age of 17. She went on to win her first Emmy at 21 years old, thanking Michael in her speech.

Using techniques she learned at MHS, Cady earned eight more Emmy nominations, winning again in 2004 and in 2021. She is the only woman to have won three daytime Emmys for three different characters on three different shows.Cady has worked extensively in theater, film and television, including on such Emmy Award-winning series as Cheers, St. Elsewhere, and Law & Order: SVU; and in Academy Award-nominated films My Favorite Year opposite Peter O'Toole and Pennies from Heaven with Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. Cady directed the award-winning documentary Seeing is Believing: Women Direct (PBS and Kanopy) and has taught at Webster University, the University of San Diego, Rochester Institute of Technology-School of Film and Animation, and many others. Cady also serves as the Artistic Director of Axial Theatre where she recently directed Never the Sinner by John Logan.

"What works and what doesn’t” in show business based on 45 years as a working actor. You'll get a solid framework to get out of your own way, and achieve your full potential. Topics to be covered include: organization, prep, auditioning, doing the job, keeping the job, transitioning, focus, attitude, relationships, self-care and strategy. You will walk away with a clear “to do” list that will propel your career forward.

The Actor’s Toolkit
Starts Saturday, April 8th - 12:00PM-3:00PM
(Ongoing: four Saturdays per month) $375/month


McClain teaches techniques learned directly from Michael Howard himself. Relaxation, body, animal, dream, and/or sensory work start each session followed by scheduled presentations (scene work, monologues, poems, performance art). The actor’s true role in society, developing your sense of yourself as an artist, and building your personal toolkit are emphasized. This class helps you find your “genius” and put creativity back under your control.
