Dylan Walsh is known for playing David Hollander on the global smash hit "Heated Rivalry" on HBO Max, the father of Hudson Williams' character Shane.
He is also known his roles as Dr. Sean McNamara in the FX TV series "Nip/Tuck," Al Burns in "Unforgettable," and Sam Lane in "Superman & Lois." Walsh went on to share 11 interesting and fun things about himself.
What are some of your favorite movies?
I’m kind of old school. I like movies like The Godfather, Citizen Kane, The Deer Hunter, Tootsie, and Rain Man.
What is your favorite series to binge-watch?
I was late to Game of Thrones, so I had to catch up quickly. I spent a lot of time sitting on the couch watching it. I was the same way with The Sopranos — I had to binge-watch to catch up.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
Spaghetti with meatballs.
What are your favorite sports to watch and play?
To watch, I’ve become mostly a football fan, but growing up and throughout my life, I’ve always been a baseball fan. I’m a Yankees fan.
I played baseball when I was a kid and was pretty good — I played second base, and that was my position.
Football has really taken over because it’s more of a community event. They aren’t playing every day, so people get together and watch it.
What is your favorite motto or principle to live by?
My mom used to say, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” When I was a kid, I thought it was a little corny, but it’s actually a great one to live by. It’s a bit of a cliché, but it’s true.
What is the best thing about being your age at this stage of your life?
I think I’m a better actor. I have a lot of wisdom that I’ve absorbed through the years, and I carry myself differently when I come to a set.
When I was young, I ran on adrenaline, but I was always good at listening, watching, and taking things in.
Now, a lot of times I’m the veteran when I walk onto a set, and I like that.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
The same advice I give others: study. Acting is something you have to study. Especially if you’ve studied somewhere else, you need to do it in places like New York or Los Angeles where you can really dive into it. I would say: study.
What are your favorite hobbies to unwind and relax?
I read a lot. I know that sounds boring, but I’m a big reader — and I’m kind of a snob about it. I like to read the best books I can find.
Right now, I’m reading The Flamethrowers by Rachel Kushner, which is a very well-known and highly regarded book.
I’m also interested in astronomy. Recently, I’ve been going outside to spot the International Space Station when it passes by. It’s surreal. I love looking at stars.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
That’s a hard one. I get asked that sometimes. My first answer would be that I’d love to fly. If I really thought about it, I might choose something else, but let’s stick with flying.
What is your favorite music?
I like jazz, but I’ll also admit that I’ll listen to a pop song if I like it at the time. I’ve always been a Springsteen fan, a U2 fan, and a fan of The Police. Nothing too surprising — classic rock.
If you had chosen a career outside of entertainment, what would you have done?
That’s a tough one. When I went to college, I majored in English because the University of Virginia had one of the best English departments in the country, and I wanted to be challenged. I love to read, so I probably would have become a teacher.
I also would have loved to go into NASA, space, or astronomy, but you have to be incredibly strong in math and physics. I probably would have ended up as an English teacher.
