Inspiration for Women - The Art of Self Series Volume 1: BE PRESENT

By Zonie LeSane

We often believe our greatest contribution lies in what we accomplish, accumulate, or achieve. Yet life's most meaningful moments are rarely defined by productivity—they are defined by presence.

Presence is the discipline of fully inhabiting the moment before us. It is choosing to listen before speaking, to observe before reacting, and to appreciate what is unfolding instead of rushing toward what comes next. In a world that constantly competes for our attention, presence is an intentional act of self-respect.

Being present is not passive. It requires courage. It asks us to set aside distraction, quiet unnecessary noise, and become fully engaged with the people, opportunities, and experiences entrusted to us today.

When we are truly present, our relationships deepen, our decisions become wiser, and even ordinary moments reveal extraordinary meaning.

Presence also transforms the relationship we have with ourselves. We become less consumed by regret over yesterday and less anxious about tomorrow. Instead, we recognize that our greatest influence exists in this moment—the only place where growth, kindness, creativity, and purpose can truly take root.

The journey of becoming begins with a single decision: to show up completely. Not someday. Not when circumstances are perfect.

Today.

Because before we can cultivate discernment, preservation, curiosity, gratitude, humor, contentment, or purpose, we must first learn the quiet power of being fully present.

Presence is where every meaningful life begins.

Come back for more as I continue the conversation, because I believe the greatest work we will ever create......is ourselves.
