Talking TV: A (Literal) Recipe for the Mid-Season Blues

My Thoughts Exactly... By Beth Abramson Brier

Seeking respite from news too heartbreaking to bear, we tuned into the 2018 Winter Olympics last month to witness the incredulous melding of North and South Koreas' women’s hockey teams, the astonishing performance by the U.S. curling contingent (move over Roomba) and Shaun White’s epic gold medal makeover. Immediately after the closing ceremonies it was time to pick up the remote and once again search through the channel guide to find  new episodes of my favs which had been on hiatus, not daring to compete with the blindingly sequined Tara and Johnny.  (Who could blame them?)

Review: NJ's Paper Mill Playhouse Presents The Outsiders Starring Julia Duff: Time to Laugh About Politics But Who the Heck is Ned Newley?

Review by Beth Abramson Brier

I am all “atwitter” about the hilarious new show, "The Outsider” on stage at Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, through February 18. Playwright Paul Slade Smith’s east coast debut is nothing less than brilliant. Finally something to laugh (and laugh and laugh) about, something to cheer for and something to stand for. Never did I expect this from politics in 2018.

The play opens with Julia Duffy (Newhart, Designing Women and, more recently, Shameless) as Paige Caldwell, a political pollster, talking with Dave Riley, the Governor’s Chief of Staff played by
