Actor Bill Alverson has been seen recently on Lifetime's new series A Sorority Mom's Guide to Rush! In addition he's known for titles Coach Charming TLC and Netflix's Insatiable. We got to learn a little more about him.
SBTS: What is in the future for you, career or personal?
SBTS: Tell me about your most recent project on Lifetime.
Bill Alverson: A Sorority Mom's Guide to Rush, on Lifetime TV (streaming on mylifetime.com and Apple TV and Amazon) is a show centered on the relationship between mothers and daughters as they prepare and navigate sorority rush. My role is one of a Rush Coach that takes a form of life coaching and being self aware of your own identity and what you goals and priorities are which lead to a discovery of your purpose. A side emphasis is the aspect of a mother and encouraging their daughters to make independent choices.
SBTS: Where exactly can we find it?
SBTS: Why are you proud of this role?
Bill Alverson: I am proud of it in how it is presented. I really am proud of seeing the girls grow and believe in who they are and that activities don't define who they are. It's not about what others think of you, it is ultimately what you think of yourself.
SBTS: What would you say to a young person who wants to follow in your footsteps? How did you get the success you have now?
Bill Alverson: Be ready for any open door. My initial goal in life was to be an attorney. I set that goal at an early age (12) and worked toward it. From that I also grew other interests so as not to be one dimensional.
I was always involved in the arts (singing, piano, theatre) and liked working in a clothing store. In each of these situations I found mentors and learned more about my job and activity and grew. So, learn who you are and see that you can grow and achieve your dreams. My aspect of sexuality also evolved but today there is much more awareness out there about that subject.
SBTS: What is the best advice you have ever been given, career-wise or other?
Bill Alverson: "There will always be someone with more money and less money. Always someone who is better looking and those that don't look as good. You are no better than anyone else but nobody is better than you."- this is advice I have always carried because for whatever circumstance in life you meet or find yourself in any position - you have a right to be there. You have a right to be you - and respect that the other person does too.
SBTS: I heard you had some great conversations on the set of Insatiable. Tell me about them.
When we were filming Insatiable Allysa Milano was in the dressing room. You know I admire her so much. I was talking to her and asked her the question, "what's going on now?". Immediately some assistants started talking about this movie or whatever project she was doing... she cut them off and said, 'no, he wants to know what I'm doing to make a difference." You see, she and I had talked before about her political activism and how important it is for her to use her presence to really change the world. She knew I got her and that kinda made me feel very cool.
Another circumstance, also from Insatiable, was with Beverly D'Angelo. When she first came on the set she said, You are interesting. I know EVERYTHING about you. and we sat and talked. Here is this icon talking about me (yes I was the show's inspiration) but she talked with specificity and just really got to talk with me and my husband. That has always stayed with me that she refused to be superficial.
SBTS: What is in the future for you, career or personal?
Bill Alverson: God only knows the future. I've learned to be open to the universe. Who would have thought this small town lawyer and pageant/rush coach would have had 3 tv shows and 7 pages in the NY Times magazine...but it also says the sun sets each day and tomorrow is a new day. You can't hold on to what happened but hopefully its always preparing us for what the next step is.
