“This is a condition that affects many but that few know about, and it is little understood as well," states. Janet Puzo, Marketing Director for Aurorae Aqua.

According to the RSDSA, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a chronic neuroinflammatory disorder. It is a result of nervous system and immune system malfunctions. Normally caused by a trauma to the body, such as a sprain, fracture, or surgery, CRPS causes extreme pain. The pain is rated as the worst pain on the McGill Pain Index. People with CRPS have several other symptoms. One of the telltale symptoms of CRPS is an intense burning and/or icy pain, similar to putting your limb on a stove and not being able to take it off or to frostbite. Other symptoms include allodynia (extreme pain caused by stimuli that should not cause pain), temperature changes in the affected regions, abnormal hair and nail growth, and discoloration. Every day activities like getting out of bed or brushing one’s teeth can become nearly impossible for a person living with CRPS

Every person with CRPS is different. Some treatments work to manage one person's pain, but that same treatment may negatively influence another person. People try various forms of treatment, including pharmaceuticals, physical therapy, and various holistic approaches.  There is no cure for CRPS. RSDSA works to provide support, education, and hope to all those affected by this condition, while also being a driving force behind research for improved treatment methods and a cure.

Pamela Curry, an RSD sufferer, says "We need more awareness and more research."
