Oscar winner Keith Carradine, most recently seen in "Imperfect Women" is best known for his roles in Robert Altman's "Nashville," as well as "Pretty Baby," "Choose Me," the TV series "Deadwood" on HBO, and for playing FBI agent Frank Lundy on "Dexter." He also had acting roles in "Fargo," "The Big Bang Theory," and "Madam Secretary." In 1976, he won the Academy Award for "Best Original Song" for performing "I'm Easy" in the feature film "Nashville."
Keith is the son of the late but great actor John Carradine. You can find him now in "Imperfect Women" on Apple TV opposite Kerry Washington, Kate Mara, and Elisabeth Moss. He shared 10 interesting and fun facts about himself.
His Favorite Movies
“I have many. I am a fan of certain epics, especially the films of David Lean. My favorite of his is ‘Lawrence of Arabia.’ I thought that what Richard Attenborough did with Ben Kingsley when they did Gandhi was extraordinary.”
“In terms of the work I did with Robert Altman, I have very fond memories of ‘Thieves Like Us’ and the first thing we did together was ‘McCabe and Mrs. Miller.’ I would also have to put ‘Citizen Kane’ in that list.”
“My tastes are rather eclectic, where they go all over the place. My dad’s film ‘Captains Courageous’ is just a great film too,” he added.
Favorite Series to Binge-watch
On his favorite series to binge, he responded, “I’ve never done that. I’ve never sat and binged a series. There are several that I’m curious about that I probably should watch that way.”
Favorite Sports to Watch and to Play
On his favorite sports to watch and to play, he said, “I’m not that big of a sports watcher. My high school sport was baseball. I took up some golf when I was in my 40s but it was too late to be any good at it. Baseball is a fascinating game.”
“In terms of going to a game and watching it live, I think probably one of the most exciting games I’ve ever watched live was a hockey match at The Forum with the Kings. It’s a really fast game and you must pay attention not only to see where the puck is but also make sure you don’t get hit by it,” he explained.
Favorite Cheat Meal
His favorite cheat meal is “In-N-Out.”
“I’m not a big junk food person. So, occasionally I will cave, if I’m feeling particularly hungry and short of time because it’s a pretty quick place to go in and out and get a burger,” he said.

His favorite motto to live by is: “To accept and allow.”
The Best Advice Keith Has Ever Been Given
The best advice that he was ever given came from the late but great Robert Altman. “Robert told me, ‘Kid let me give you some advice… don’t ever take advice from anybody,” Carradine recalled.
What He Says is the Best Thing about Being His Age
The best thing about being his age, at this stage of his life, is his “health.”
How He Unwinds
His favorite hobby to unwind and relax is “music.” “It’s not so much a hobby because it has actually been a profession of mine. Music is something I’ve been doing my entire adult life,” he said.
“In terms of a place to put one’s energy as a form of escape, as well as of self-expression, I think music is as high as it gets,” he acknowledged.
“I’ve also dabbled at painting even though I wouldn’t call myself a painter. I’m really a bit of a dauber. I have painted on occasion. I painted some canvases when I did ‘The Moderns’ with Alan Rudolph,” he added.
If Keith Carradine Was not an Actor He Might Be...
On his alternate career choice (outside of entertainment), he revealed, “When I was just getting out of high school, I thought what I really wanted to do was go into forestry. I thought I was going to be a forest ranger. I applied to colleges with that in mind, and the college I was accepted was Colorado State in Fort Collins, which has a major forestry department, so it was a nice place to be accepted.”
“By the time I went there to begin my studies, I realized now, forestry is really a science, and I am not particularly given to the study of science. So, I changed my major to English literature, and I went into the family profession,” he noted.
Dream acting partners to someday work with
On his dream acting partners, he shared, “I have a list of legends with whom I’ve worked, and most of whom are all gone now but there are some extraordinarily gifted people out there.”
“I can’t think of one particular person that I would welcome the chance to work with, but I look forward to every time I get a chance to work with somebody who is really a master at their craft,” he concluded.
